I've been having lots of get-togethers with friends over the past week-plus, mostly individual meetings. It's been really pleasant. Turns out I am acquainted with quite a varied and inspiring cross-section of people, particularly noticeable when they pass before your eyes in swift succession. Some days I have met with four different friends. It's like High Fidelity, almost, with people I know in place of women I've dated. (Although, it seems a lot of people I know are women I've dated.) Secretly, I relish it and wish I could make big special decisions more often. (Also noteworthy: who you don't see.)
When I travel through the city lately, I try to imagine how I would feel if I were seeing Seattle for the first time, not unlike the way I recently viewed Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Thanks to the extraordinarily beautiful weather we've enjoyed this winter, the conclusion I keep arriving at is: this place is delicate and fine and twinkly when you look at in the right light. That light is usually not there in February, but this year Seattle is mocking my decision to move.
- Pet carriers that fit under airline seats are alarmingly small.
- You can bring cremated remains on a flight, but only in carry-on baggage, and only in a container that can be x-rayed. They will not open the container, and if it can't be x-rayed, you can't bring it.
- I still have to look up whether there will be any bother with bringing my philodendron.
