I've been out all day. Just got home + read that "Are Liberals Helping Trump?" New York Times piece. Fucking hell, I have thoughts. For those who haven't yet read it, it basically posits that liberals are being too "mean" to unsure Trump supporters. Let me repeat that: The New York Times published a piece saying that LIBERALS are being "mean" to Trump supporters. You read that right.
First of all, let me just say that I could give a flying fuck about the feelings of any Trump supporter who claims they're hurt. This isn't 2008. This isn't 2012. This isn't McCain or Romney. This isn't some mid-road conservative w/ problematic views. This man literally campaigned on banning Muslims from the United States, and you voted for him. Period. What else must be said? The author of this claims that she's spoken to conservatives who might be on the fence AFTER THEY VOTED FOR TRUMP. The author further claims that we liberals are alienating these Trump supporters by publicly shaming them. SO THE FUCK WHAT? What is this inane bullshit with some liberals who still seriously believe that we're going to beat Trump by asking about their views?
Folks, I really need you to get this through your skull: TRUMP PEOPLE ARE FUCKING BIGOTS. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU. THESE PEOPLE VOTED FOR A MAN WHO BRAGGED ABOUT SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMEN. DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF, RIGHT NOW? These people voted for a man who encourage violence at his rallies against people of color. THEY STILL VOTED FOR HIM. He literally proposed to lock up women for having abortions. THEY STILL VOTED FOR HIM. He called Mexicans rapists and claimed we'd build a wall and Mexico would pay for it. THEY STILL VOTED FOR HIM. Seriously, what more fucking proof do some of you liberals need that Trump supporters don't give a shit about reason? THEY. DON'T. CARE. They don't care. They. Do. Not. Care. Trump supporters don't fucking care about you. And instead of accepting that Trump voters don't give a shit about you and projecting strength, we keep cowering like fucking cowards.
Liberals, let me be absolutely clear: we NEED to be nasty. We need to call out this moronic fucking bullshit. We need to get rough. Because the only thing moderates, let alone Trump folks, are going to respond to is strength. WE NEED TO PROJECT STRENGTH. And projecting strength does not mean sending Trump people a bouquet of fucking roses and apologizing for calling them racists. Because they ARE RACISTS. They're SEXISTS. They're XENOPHOBES. And they're MORONS. And no amount of spineless pandering will change that. For the love of all that is good, stop asking hateful people to explain why they're hateful. I don't care that you read an article with some anecdotal evidence of some garden variety racist who changed their mind after years of having a black friend. WE DO NOT HAVE YEARS. This is now. It is immediate. As we speak, they're raiding homes and deporting entire families. DO YOU GET IT?! We tried being nice. Fucking hell, we've tried it for decades. Is anyone else tired of losing? Is no one else tired of this bullshit? Because mark my words: a strategy of appeasing Trump voters and trying to convince them with reason WILL ENSURE WE LOSE. GUARANTEED. We will win by getting out the vote. We will win by building progressive coalitions. We will win by rallying moderates. WE WILL NOT WIN BY GIVING SOME RACIST FUCK A CUP OF TEA AND RUBBING THEIR BELLY WHILE THEY EXPOUND ON THEIR WORLDVIEW. Jesus Christ, get fucking angry. Get mad. This is not the time to talk about commonalities. WE NEED TO BAREKNUCKLE BOX THESE PEOPLE. We need to get their face and ABSOLUTELY FUCKING PUBLICLY SHAME THEM FOR BEING INTELLECTUALLY LAZY, RACIST, SEXIST ASSHOLES. We are not going to win by exchanging ideas w/ Trump people. We will win by standing up and BEING PROUD OF OUR LIBERAL VALUES.
You are a liberal. You believe in equality and inclusion. You believe that no one gets left behind, even Trump folks. BE PROUD OF THAT.
You are a liberal. You will not stand for white supremacy or patriarchy in any form. You will beat it the fuck down. BE PROUD OF THAT.
You are a liberal. You believe in the American Dream and that it should be accessible to all and should exploit no one. BE PROUD OF THAT.
You are a liberal. You believe in science, even if you're a person of faith. You believe REASON always comes first. BE PROUD OF THAT.
For fucksake, stop apologizing for your intelligence. Stop apologizing for your education. Fuck them if they don't like it. BE PROUD. And the next time some weak-ass Trump voter says their feelings are hurt, tell them they shouldn't have voted for a goddamn racist. The next time some Trump voter leaves their "safe space" and whines, remind them THEY VOTED FOR A PATHETIC MAN WHO ASSAULTS WOMEN. For the love of all that is good, if you start being proud of being a liberal, I promise you--PROMISE--victory will follow.
