I'm not entirely clear at what point in this unfolding drama noted Obama-loather Mitch McConnell said this stuff. To me, it feels like his every decision is politically motivated, and not tied to actual statesmanship or governing.
“Yesterday we commemorated the anniversary of the attacks of September the 11th, and today we are reminded that brave Americans serve us every day at the risk of their own lives,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said in a statement. “We honor the Americans we lost in Libya and we will stand united in our response.”
But the last sentence there, to me, sure reads like he understands diplomacy, the way a statesman should. Even if you factor in the political implications of a Republican Obama-hating Senate Minority Leader standing with the President, it suggests he does not expect Mitt Romney to ever be the President, and doesn't care.
