thrill jockey tuesday, wk 6

My birthday coincided with my Thrill Jockey Tuesday this week. It was spent adding material to the large press-clip documents that are kept on file for each artist's release. A feature in the Stranger about Tortoise, grabbed, dropped into the document using a program called inDesign. Shape it a little, make it fit, save it, convert it to a .pdf, BAM! Repeat! Birthday intern!

I discovered they actually do have a/c at Thrill Jockey, central air no less, but hadn't turned it on til this week. Maybe they wait til after the Fourth of July? Bettina was out of town, so... hm. Happy birthday to me not melting!

Around midday someone threw on the new Califone album. It sounded great, so I asked if it was available for my intern promo of the day. No. This new Califone album is not on Thrill Jockey, it's on Dead Oceans. Further, apparently no one notified Thrill Jockey that they had lost one of their popular bands to another label. When I realized that Dead Oceans is also the new home to John Vanderslice, who used to be on Barsuk in Seattle, I couldn't help but wonder: did Dead Oceans pull the same poachy move, or was it amicable?

At any rate, I selected the most recent Califone release Thrill Jockey put out, Roots & Crowns, for my day of work, and because it was my birthday, went home a little early.
