thrill jockey tuesday, wk 1 / 2
I have begun interning at Thrill Jockey Records on Tuesdays. I am the world's oldest intern. On the other hand, I've always wanted to be on the inside of a great indie label like Thrill Jockey, to see how they do what they do. I'm hoping to make connections, too.
At the end of each day, as interns we are paid one promo CD of our choosing. Week one I inadvertently chose the label's best-selling release of all time, which seems like a good one to start with:
Today in week two, in the midst of my shrink wrap duty, I was drawn to an album with a dark maroon, wine-colored tray that turned out to be Tom Verlaine (from Television). Having never heard anything outside of Marquee Moon, I picked it as my payment for the day:
